Jerome Volunteer Fire Co

On Sunday November 29, 2009 at 1409 hours our first alarm was toned out for a smoke in a structure on Somerset Avenue in Jerome. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and arrived to find no conditions from the exterior of a two story, two family residential dwelling. 631 Captain went inside to the second floor to find a small fire smoldering among some clothes on the bedroom floor and requested a water can to this location to extinguish the fire. A negative pressure fan was set up by the second in crews from Boswell Fire while Hollsopple Fire Department stood by at the hydrant. Additional incoming units were cancelled. CTPD was requested to the scene for investigative purposes and the officer arrived (which just happened to be 631 Chief) and determined that the fire was started by the ten year old son who was playing with a lighter in his bedroom and ignited a piece of cardboard which then ignited some clothes and garbage on fire. Departments assisting were Boswell, Hollsopple, Conemaugh Township, Ideal, Richland Township Fire, and Conemaugh Township EMS.

 On Sunday September 20, 2009 at 0739 hours the Jerome and Boswell Fire Departments were dispatched for a vehicle accident with 1 injury on Penn Avenue somewhere betwen Jerome and Boswell. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 as well as Boswell Rescue 1 and Engine 2 responded. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 arrived to locate the accident just south of Jerome. Crew located 1 vehicle a Ford Pick up that ran of the roadway striking the guide rail and a telephone pole. Vehicle came to rest on the guide rail with 1 female pt trapped. Crews immediatelty went to work with the Holmatro tools to free the pt and were assisted by Boswell crews. Pt was freed in a few minutes and was transferred to the care of CTEMS. PSP is investigating assisted by Conemaugh Township Police. Another great job by the Jerome and Boswell Crews.

 On Monday August 31, 2009 and again on Tuesday September 1, 2009 the Jerome Fire Dept Water Rescue Team was dispatched to assist the Addison Fire Dept on a water rescue on the Yough Lake. Rescue 652 responded with divers and support crew and made the 52 mile trip to the command post at the Yough Lake Marina.  Our Boat was launched from there and the divers from multiple agencies from 3 states dove for 3 days to locate the missing boater. Crews used under water cameras, sonar devices, and cadaver dogs in the search. The subject was located on day 3 of the search. Great effort by all personnel involved and it was great to see the multi state mutual aid assist.

On Sunday July 5, 2009 at 0016 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched for a structure fire on Thomas Road in Jerome. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and arrived to find a working fire on 2 floors of a vacant house that was slated for demolition. Crews set up an engine relay from a tanker fill site nearby for water supply and pulled 3, 2 inch attack lines and made an interior attack and made another quick knock down. Crews then opened the walls to extinguish extension. Fire was ruled an arson by the State police Fire Marshall as the house had all utilities disconnected. Great job again by all crews. Jerome was assisted by Boswell, Hollsopple, Conemaugh Township, and Richland Township as well as tankers from Boswell, Jennerstown, Stoystown and Richland Township. Thanks to all departments for another great save in our first due.

On Friday July 3, 2009 at 1526 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched for a vehicle accident on Jerome Hill Road. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and arrived to find one vehicle into the guide rail. Patient was in the care of CTEMS. Crews set up traffic control and cleared debris from the roadway. Crews were then released from the scene by Conemaugh Township Police.  

On Wednesday June 24, 2009 at 2004 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist Ideal Fire Dept with a vehicle accident on Somerset Pike at Shaffer's Tasty Freeze. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and were cancelled by 610 Chief while we were enroute.  

On Wednesday June 24, 2009 at 0813 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched for a vehicle accident on Penn Avenue at Johnson Controls. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and arrived to find 2 vehicles off the roadway. Crews stood by until EMS was done with refusals and crews returned to service.  

On Tuesday June 23, 2009 at 1211 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched in place of Ideal Fire Dept and Conemaugh Township Fire Dept for a tree down on Glessner Road. Rescue 3 responded and was cancelled as we pulled on scene by Conemaugh Township Fire Dept who did respond and removed tree from roadway.  

On Wednesday June 17, 2009 at 2312 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched for a tree down on the roadway on Hyasota Hill Road. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and arrived to find a small tree blocking the roadway. Crews cut up tree and cleared the roadway of debris.  

On Wednesday June 17, 2009 at 2009 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist Hollsopple Fire Dept with a vehicle accident on East Campus Avenue. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and arrived to find 1 vehicle off the roadway into a ditch. Drived states that vehicle was on fire but is now just smoking. Crew pulled a water can and sprayed down engine compartment. Crews were released by 621 Chief.  

On Wednesday June 17, 2009 at 1722 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched for a vehicle accident on Moonlite Park Road at Old Hershberger Road. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and arrived to find 2 vehicles blocking the roadway. Crews set up traffic control and cleaned debris and fluid from the roadway. Crews stood by until both units were towed from the scene.

 On Wednesday June 17, 2009 at 0333 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist Hollsopple Fire Dept on a vehicle accident, vehicle on fire on Quemahoning Dam Road. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and arrived to assist Hollsopple crew with the extinguishment of a fully involved vehicle fire. pt was in care of CTEMS and was self extricated. Driver had lost control of his car and ran up an embankment and sheared off a utility pole and came to rest on the utility pole. both pole and vehicle and pole were on fire. Crews used a handline to extinguish fire and Jerome Crews were released by Hollsopple command.  

On Tuesday June 16, 2009 at 1249 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist Ideal Fire Dept on a vehicle pedestrian accident on Somerset Pike at Shaffer's Tasty Freeze. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and were cancelled enroute by 610 Chief.

On Tuesday June 16, 2009 at 0421 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched for a structure fire at 171 Oak Street in Jerome. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and were updated enroute to a fully involved fire. Crews arrived and tagged a nearby hydrant and pulled 2, 2inch handlines and immediately made an interior attack on the fire. Crews immediately found floors collapsing inside the structure but continued and made an aggresive attack to knock down the fire. Crews knocked down fire and began overhaul on structure. Roof was ventilated by the truck company from Richland Township. Fire was ruled accidental by the State Police Fire Marshall. Crews made an excellent knock down however due to the heavy involvement the house was still determined to be a total loss. Jerome was assisted by crews from Boswell, Hollsopple, Ideal, Conemaugh Township, Richland Township Fire, CTEMS and Conemaugh Township Police and State police. Excellent job by all crews.   

On Friday June 12, 2009 at 0802 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched for a vehicle accident on Somerset Pike in Thomas Mills. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and arrived to find one vehicle on its side. There was one patient who was out of the vehcile and in the care of CTEMS. Crews stabilized vehicle and established traffic control. Crews removed debris and fluid from the roadway and stood by until unit was towed from the scene.

On Thursday June 11, 2009 at 1459 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist Ideal Fire Dept on a a vehicle accident on Somerset pike at Coon Ridge Road. Engine 1 responded and was cancelled enroute by 610 Chief.

On Wednesday June 10, 2009 at 1843 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched for a vehicle accident on Penn Avenue at Woodstown Highway. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and arrived to find a pick up truck into a culvert with a fuel leak. Crews pulled an 1 1/2 foam line and put aflow of water on fuel leak as vehicle was loaded onto the rollback. Traffic control was established and debris was removed from the scene.

 On Monday June 8, 2009 at 2046 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist Ideal Fire Dept on a vehicle accident one vehicle into a structure on Welsh Valley Drive. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and were cancelled enroute by 610 Chief.

On Friday May 29, 2009 at 0255 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was activated for a smoke in the structure on School Avenue in Jerome. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 quickly responded and were immediately updated to a working fire. Engine 1 arrived and the Chief assumed the command. Crew tagged a nearby hydrant as additional personnel pulled 2 two inch handlines and made an interior attack. Crews shut down and removed a propane tank from the delta side of the structure. All crews then used thermal imagers to locate additional hot spots and extension in the walls and ceilings, and extinguished all fires. Crews then overhauled the residence and units were released from the scene. Crews did an excellent job and knocked the fire down with very minimal damage. Awesome job by all departments. Jerome was assisted by Boswell, Hollsopple, Conemaugh Township, Ideal, and Richland Twp Fire Department and Conemaugh Township EMS. Fire was ruled accidental and was fueled by a leak in the propane line.    

On Saturday may 23, 2009 at 2301 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was activated to assist Ideal Fire Dept with an accident on SR271. Engine 1 responded and arrived to find all patients were in thecare of EMS. Crew was released shortly thereafter as no assistance was needed.  

On Thursday may 21, 2009 at 1800 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was activated for a vehicle fire on SR219 near the Jerome exit. Patrol arrived on scene an advised of a fully involved commercial vehicle fire. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and arrived to find Vending truck fully involved. Crews pulled a trash lineand extinguished the fire within minutes. Crews then cleaned up the scene and secured the truck to be towed by Herring Motors. Crews were assisted by Engine 2 and Tanker 4 from Boswell Fire Dept.   

On Monday May 11, 2009 at 1540 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was activated to assist Ideal Fire Dept with an accident on Somerset Pike at Golf Haven. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and arrived along with Rescue 610-6. 631 crews were given orders to take command. Crews found a 2 vehicle accident with 1 injury. Crews assisted EMS with treatment and established traffic control. Crews cleared debris from the roadway and returned to service once vehicles were towed from the scene.  

On Saturday May 9, 2009 at 1139 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was activated to assist Ideal Fire Dept with an unknown type fire on Country Club Road. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and were cancelled enroute by 631 Chief on scene who only needed 1 engine to extinguish a controlled burn. Engine 619-1 arrived and extinguished the small burn.

On Thursday May 7, 2009 at 0430 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was activated for a tree down on the roadway on Penn Avenue in Jener Twp. Engine 1 responded and removed a small tree from the roadway.  

On Sunday MAy 3, 2009 at 2218 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was activated to assist Boswell Fire Dept with a smoke in the structure on Mississippi Street in Boswell Boro. All stations were cancelled before responding.  

On Sunday May 3, 2009 at 1117 hours the Jerome Fire Dept Water Rescue Team was activated for a water rescue drill at Greenhouse Park. Rescue 652 responded and performed various water rescue exercises. We were assisted by Team 670. 

On Friday May 1, 2009 at 1245 the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist Conemaugh Township Fire Dept with a Fire Alarm at 1120 Miller Picking Road. Engine 1 responded and arrived on scene as the only unit on the road to find an accidental alarm. Engine 1 investigated andeturned to service.  

On Thursday April 30, 2009 at 2022 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist Ideal Fire Dept with an accident at the intersection of Dalton Run Road and Fender Lane. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and werre cancelled enroute by 610 Chief.

On Monday April 27, 2009 the Jerome Fire Dept responded to 2 calls. The first was at 1443 hours on Homestead Lane for a brush fire assisting Hollsopple Fire Dept. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and arrived first engine in and pulled a 2 inch handline to extinguish the fire. Crews then used rakes and indian packs to extinguish hot spots and clear the perimeter. Crews were also assisted by Conemaugh Twp. Fire Dept and were in service at 1554 hrs.

The 2nd call was at 1554 hrs on North Red Drive in Pine Crest Estates assisting Conemaugh Township Fire Dept with an engine for a vehicle fire as there engine was out of service for maintenance. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded. Engine 1 was advised of a working fire. Engine 1 arrived after 619 to find a small fire in the engine compartment of a passenger car. Owner had applied a fire extinguisher prior to our arrival. Crews used two water cans to extinguish the remainng fire. Crews were in service at 1620 hrs and were assisted by Hollsopple Fire Dept. Conemaugh Twp. Police are investigating.

 On Friday April 17, 2009 at 2103 hrs the Jerome Fire Dept responded to a motorcycle accident with 1 injury on Penn Avenue at Hyasota Hill Rd. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded to find 1 pt that was thrown from a motorcycle. Pt was transported by CTEMS. Motorcycle fled scene prior to arrival. Conemaugh Twp. Police aqre investigating. Jerome was assisted by Hollsopple Fire Dept. Crews were in service at 2159 hrs.  

 On Friday April 10, 2009 at 0035 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched for a Carbon Monoxide detector activation on School Avenue in Jerome. Engine 1 responded and arrived to have the homeowner be checked out by EMS. Crew took the meter in the house and checked the entire residence to find negative readings. Crew changed the batteries and detector did not reactivate. Crews were in service at 0107 hours.

On Friday March 27, 2009 at 1733 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist ems with a lift assist at 138 Somerset Ave. Rescue 3 responded and assisted ems as needed. Crew was in service at 1752 hours.

On Monday March 30, 2009 at 0306 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was activated in place of Ideal for a tree down blocking the roadway on Ligonier Pike, however we were cancelled before responding.

On Monday March 30, 2009 at 1630 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist ems with forcible entry on Penn Ave for a mandown. We were immediately cancelled as the caller provided the incorrect address.

On Thursday April 2, 2009 at 1636 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist Jennerstown Fire Dept with a vehicle fire endangering the woods on Hemlock Road in Jenner Twp. Enghine 1 responded and arrived to stage at the bottom of the driveway until released by Jennerstown OIC. We were in service at 1653 hours.

 On Sunday March 22, 2009 at 1221 hrs the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist Conemaugh Twp Fire Dept on a brush fire on Moonshine Hollow Rd. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and arrived. Rescue 3 personnel used rakes and indian tanks to assist with containment. Engine 1 supplied engine 619-1 with water from a hydrant and also used our deluge gun to help contain and extinguish the fire. Crews were in service at 1436 hrs.

On Friday March 20, 2009 at 2334 hrs the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched for traffic control assisting PSP with a vehicle accident one vehicle rolled over, no injuries on Penn Ave approx 1 mile south of Jerome. Rescue 3 responded and arrived to find one vehicle on its roof blocking the roadway. Operator had fled the scene. Crews established traffic control until vehicle was removed by tow truck. Units were in service at 0029 hrs.

On Wednesday March 18, 2009 at 1603 hrs the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist Jennerstown Fire Dept with a large brush fire at 176 Walker Way. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and arrived and pulled a 2 inch handline to extinguish some of the perimeter. Crews also used indian tanks and rakes to extinguish hot spots. Crews were in service at 1829 hrs.

On Saturday March 14, 2009 at 1411 hrs the Jerome Fire Dept responded to a brush fire at 567 Old Hershberger Rd. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and arrived to find a fast moving fire. Hollsopple was requested for manpower and Boswell was requested for a Tanker and manpower. Engine 1 crew pulled a 2 inch handline to quickly contain the perimeter, then crews used indian tanks and rakes to extinguish the remaining fire and hot spots. Approx. 1 acre was burned. Units were clear at 1509 hrs.

 On Thursday March 12, 2009 at 0835 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist Hollsopple on an accident one vehicle overturned on Plank Road approx 1/2 mile south of the breast of the dam. Engine 1 responded and arrived as first fire apparatus on scene to find one vehicle overturned approx 40 feet down an embankment with one occupant trapped. Driver indicated he had been there since approx midnight. The crew from Engine 1 immediately pulled the tools and went to work. We removed the drivers side front and rear doors as well as the B post, then extricated the patient to a back board and stokes basket and extricated the patient up the hillside to the ambulance. Crews from Hollsopple and Hooversville arrived and assisted with the extrication. CTEMS transpoted the patient to the ER. PSP is handling the investigation. Crews were in service at 0945 hours. Excellent job by all crews.  

On Wednesday March 11, 2009 at 1638 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist Hooversville Fire Dept with a forest fire on Koontz Road in Quemahoning Twp. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 arrived and our personnel provided water packs and rakes to assist in establishing a fire line. Once the fire line was established, the crews extinguished the fire and all hot spots and worked the perimeter. Approx 12 acres were burned and the fire spread very rapidly due to the high winds. Crews worked excellent together to prevent a major fire. Hooversville, Jerome, Hollsopple, Stoystown, and Boswell Fire Departments all responded. Units were in service at 1810.

On Saturday March 7, 2009 at 1503 hours the Jerome Fire Dept responded to a brush fire at 156 Phillips Street in Jerome. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and arrived to find a small fire in the brush that was the result of a homeowner burning garbage. Crews used a 2 inch handline to contain the fire and then used the hoseline and brush rakes to extinguish the fire and clear the perimeter. Units were in service at 1527 hours.

On Saturday March 7, 2009 at 0226 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to a vehicle accident with entrapment on Penn Avenue just south of Jerome in Jenner Twp our first due area. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and arrived to find one vehicle overturned with one occupant trapped inside the vehicle. Crews immediately went to work and used the hydraulic tools to remove the driver's side door and extricate the occupant from the vehicle into the care of CTEMS. Jerome was assisted by CTEMS and Boswell Fire and EMS. Pa State Police are investigating. Crews were in service at 0423 hours. Excellent job by all.

On Wednesday March 4, 2009 at 2131 hrs the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist Hollsopple Fire Dept on a CO alarm activation on Ham Rd. Engine 1 and Rescue 3 responded and arrived to be given orders to send all packables to the front door. Crews from 631 and 621 entered residence and checked with gas meters to find negative readings. It was determined that there was a a faulty detector. All occupants were trated and released by Conemaugh Twp. EMS. Crews were in service at 2218 hrs.

On Wednesday February 18, 2009 at 1514 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to 538 Hyasota Hill RD in our first due area for an appliance fire. Engine 631-1 and Rescue 631-3 responded and crews arrived and pulled a 2 inch hand line and made entry to the basement to find the hot water heater on fire. Crews had the electric to the water heater disconnected and the fire extinguished itself. Crews checked the basement with the thermal imager for extension. Command released all units and cleared from the scene at 1555 hours. Jerome was assisted by Boswell, Ideal, Hollsopple, and Conemaugh Township Fire and EMS.

On Saturday February 14, 2009 at 0257 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist Hollsopple Fire Dept on an mva on SR219 southbound at the Carpenters Park overpass. Engine 631-1 and Rescue 631-3 responded. Engine 631-1 arrived first unit in to find one suv off the roadway into an embankment. Sole occupant was out of vehicle talking to PD. Driver swerved to miss a deer, striking a guide rail, then running off the roadway into the embankment. Crews set up traffic control and stood by until vehicle was towed from the scene. Conemaugh Township Police are investigating.   

Severe weather hits area.

Starting at 1800 hours on Wednesday February 11, 2009 the Jerome Fire Dept responded to a total of 8 weather related calls ranging from trees and wires down to flooded basements. We assisted several neighboring departments also during the storms.

On Thursday February 12, 2009 at 1301 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to the Blough Mennonite Church Daycare on Woodstown Highway for a Carbon Monoxide Alarm. Engine 631-1 responded and arrived to find the day care had been evacuated prior to our arrival. Crew entered the structure to immediately get an extremely high reading on the CO meter. Crew determined that a generator that was running to provide power to the daycare which was knocked out from the severe weather was not properly vented causing the center to fill was exhaust fumes. The staff and students were alerted by a Carbon monoxide detector, and the children were immediately evacuated. All children were examined by CTEMS who was also on scene. 631 Chief had Engine 605-2 respond to assist with ventilation. Crews disconnected the generator and ventilated the building with negative pressure fans. The builidng was rechecked with the meter to find negative readings. All children were released to the care of their parents as there was still no power to the daycare. Crews returned to service at 1427 hours. Thank you Boswell Fire Dept and CTEMS for your assistance. No children were in harms way due to the fast acting and the training of the staff.

 On Monday February 9, 2009 at 1216 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist Ideal Fire Dept with a smoke in the structure at 136 Fernwood Dr. Engine 631-1 responded and arrived to be given instructions to send all packables to the residence. Found 2 patients on scene and had them treated by EMS for minor smoke inhalation. Crew entered the residence with the thermal imager and CO meter. A check of the residence revealed no smoke or CO in residence. When the crew fired the furnace it was determined that the occupant's were nearly out of fuel and when the furnace was misfiring it was pumping out some smoke from the furnace. Units cleared at 1312 hours.  

On Sunday February 8, 2009 at 0913 hours the Jerome Fire Dept responded to 3125 Penn Avenue for a flooded basement. Rescue 631-3 responded and arrived to find approx. 8 inches of water in the basement. Crews pumped the water from basement and left our portable pump at the residence due to homeowner having severe water problems and the water running in almost as fast as we were pumping it out.  Crews cleared at 1115 hours.

On Wednesday February 4, 2009 at 0958 hrs the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist Boswell Fire Dept with a smoke in the structure at 715 Keyser Road. Upon acknowledging the call we were advisd to hold in station. After E605-2 arrived on scene they requested E631-1 to the scene. E631-1 responded and was given instructions upon approach to stage along  Penn Ave and send our crew to the structure to check for extension. Our crew took the thermal imager inside and began checking the walls for extension. Our crew along with 605 also went to the basement and extinguished the furnace fire and removed the flue pipes and began cleaning out the flue. The roof crew dumped some dry chem down the flue and then began dropping the chains down as the basement crew cleaned the debris from the flue. The roof crew also had to cut a hole into the eaves to extinguish some extension. Once all extension was out the basement was ventilated with a negative pressure fan and the residence was again checked with heat guns and the thermal imager. All crews were in service at 1218 hrs.   

On Saturday January 31, 2009 at 0028 hrs the Jerome Fire Dept responded to a an mva on Penn Ave just south of Rolling Acres Dairy. Engine 631-1 and Rescue 631-3 responded to find 1 vehicle rolled over into a field with power lines down. Pt was treated and released by Conemaugh Township EMS. Crews set up traffic control until PSP and Penelec arrived. Crews were in service at 0123 hrs.

On Friday January 30, 2009 at 0702 hrs the Jerome Fire Dept responded to assist Hooversville Fire Dept at 299 Koontz Rd with an electrical fire. E631-1 responded and arrived as first in unit to find fire out. The service line to the residence shorted out and caught the exterior of the residene on fire. The homeowner's son had arrived prior to our engine and turned off the electricity and used a fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire. Our crew used the thermal imager to locate additional hot spots and used a water can to extinguish the same. Crews returned at 0816 hrs.

 On Thursday January 29, 2009 at 0701 hrs the Jerome Fire Dept responded to assist Ideal Fire Dept with a working commercial vehicle Fire on Somerset Pike. E631-1 responded and arrived on scene to be given orders to stage in front of the vehicle. Crews then assisted E619-1 with extinguishment. Crew returned to service at 1609.

On Wednesday January 28, 2009 at 1551 hrs the Jerome Fire Dept responded to assist Ideal Fire Dept on an appliance fire at 129 Shaffer Road. E631-1 responded and arrived to stage at the bottom of the road near a hydrant. We were released a short time later as the fire was out.

 On Friday January 16, 2009 at 0950 hours the Jerome Fire Dept. was dispatched to to an mva with entrapment on SR219 Southbound just North of the Jerome exit. Engine 631-1 and Rescue 631-3 arrived to find a Pepsi truck on its side with one entrapped. Command was established and Rescue 3-1 and Engine 621-2 also arrived. Crews used the hydraulic tools and hand tools to extricate the pt. Pt was transported to a local hospital by Conemaugh Twp. EMS. Conemaugh Twp. Police handled the investigation. Crews were in service at 1043.

On Sunday January 18, 2009 at 1246 hours the Jerome Fire Dept ws dispatched for traffic contol on Jerome Hill Rd to assist with a tractor trailor that slid into the guide rail and was blocking the roadway.  Engine 631-1 and Rescue 631-3 arrived to find the roadway blocked and hazardous road conditions. The roadway was shut down until Penndot could arrive to plow and salt the road. The tractor was later towed from the scene. Crews were back in service at 1345. Conemaugh Twp Police handled the investigation.

On Wednesday January 21, 2009 at 0907 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist Hollsopple Fire Dept with an mva on Sr 219 North of Davidsville exit. Engine 631-1 arrived after EMS to assist Conemaugh Twp EMS with loading the pt into their unit. There was a single vehicle rolled over in the median. Crews set up traffic control and were released by 621 chief at 0948 hours to respond to another accident on Sr 219 southbound north of Jerome in our first due. Engine 631-1 arrived to find another single vehicle roll over. Pt was out of the vehicle upon arival. Crew set up traffic control and assisted EMS. Conemaugh Twp Police investigated. Crew was assisted by Engine 621-2. Crews were back in service at 1031.

On Tuesday January 6, 2009 the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched at 1644 hours for an mva on Somerset Pike in front of the Beka House in Jenner Twp for an mva. We were dispatched in place of Station 606 who was committed on a structure fire. Rescue 3 responded along with Medic 640-1 and 4 to find one vehicle off the roadway into a sign pole. Pt was treated at the scene and released. Crews stood by until PSP arrived and then cleared the scene.

On Wednesday January 7, 2009 at 0908 the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched at 0908 hours for a tree on wires, wires burning on Saylor School Rd. Rescue 3 responded in place of Stations 610 and 619 who could not crew. Rescue 3 arrived and provided a pole number so the power company could be notified. Crew assisted by the Conemaugh Township Police established traffic control until Penelec arrived.

On Thursday January 8, 2009 the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched at 0930 hours to assist Conemaugh Township Police with a search detail. Crews met patrol at the station and were advised of a 30 year old male with Bi-polar disorder that walked away from his residence and was wearing jeans and a sweater. A command post was established at our station, and the Somerset County Search and Rescue team as well as the Windber/Paint Twp Police Department search dog was notified. Subject was located a short time later and crews were released. 

 Tree Down

On Wednesday December 31, 2008 the Jerome Volunteer Fire Dept was dispatched at 1503 to a tree down on Maple Springs Rd. Rescue 631-3 arrived to find a very small branch partially onto the roadway. Crew removed tree from roadway and returned to service.  

Tree Down

On Tuesday December 30, 2008 at 2127 the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched  to assist Sta 621 on a tree down on Quemahoning Dam Rd. Rescue 631-3 responded to assist Hollsopple Crew in tree removal. 

Flooded Basement that wasn't!!

On Tuesday December 23, 2008 at 1539 the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to a flooded basement that wasn't at 182 School Avenue in Jerome. We arrived to find a vehicle accident that had occurred approx 1 hr earlier and was not reported. The homeowner was backing into his driveway when he accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake, driving into his kitchen. The gas line to the stove was ruptured and the water line to the kitchen sink ruptured, flooding the living area of the house. Crews used shop vacs to clean up the water.  Vehicle Accidents

On Monday December 22, 2008 the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched at 0925 hrs for a motor vehicle accident on SR219 in Jenner Twp in our first due area. One pt was transported to the hospital by Boswell EMS. Units stood by until PSP arrived. Jerome was assisted by Boswell Fire and EMS and Conemaugh Township EMS.

 On Sunday December 21, 2008, 3 calls the first at 1030 the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist Hollsopple Fire Dept on a motor vehicle accident on Old Cider press Rd. Units were cancelled enroute as vehicle left the scene. the next was dispatched at 1102 to assist Boswell Fire Dept at 228 Juniata Street with a Flue Fire. Units were cancelled before responding by Station 605. The final was dispatched at 1818 hrs to assist Ideal Fire Dept with a motor vehicle accident in the 4600 Blk of Somerset Pike. Units were cancelled enroute as vehicle just slid into the field after hitting some ice on the roadway.

 Structure Fire

On Saturday December 13, 2008 at 1749 hrs the Jerome Fire Dept was dispathced to assist the Ideal Fire Dept on a working structure fire at 205 Fortune Lane. Engine 631-1 responded and set up an engine relay and supplied water to the scene.

Vehicle Accident 

On Sunday December 14, 2008 at 2152 hours the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist the Ideal Fire Dept on a motor vehicle accident with rollover and ejection on Route 985 at Coon Ridge Road. Engine 631-1 responded and was cancelled en route as all patients were in the care of Conemaugh Township EMS. Conemaugh Township Police are investigating.

AFA 

On Wednesday December 17, 2008 at 1902 hrs the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist the Boswell Fire dept on an Automatic Fire Alarm at 1215 Morris Avenue the North Star Middle School. All units were cancelled as Engine 605-2 arrived to find a false activation.

Vehicle Accident 

On Thursday December 18, 2008 at 0804 hrs the Jerome Fire Dept was dispathced to assist the Ideal Fire Dept. on a motor vehicle accident on Route 271 at the Hiking Trail one vehicle on its side.  Engine 631-1 arrived to assist with traffic contol. There were no injuries. Conemaugh Township Police are investigating.

Weather related calls 

On Friday December 19, 2008 starting at 1301 hrs the Jerome Fire Dept responded to a total of 12 weather related calls. Heavy rains and warm temperatures caused severe flooding throughout Somerset and Cambria Counties.  Engine 631-1 and Rescue 631-3 pumped 8 flooded basements, some with as much as 6 feet of water in them. We also shut down numerous roadways and directed traffic due to flooded roadways. Our Rescue boat, Rescue 652 responded to 3 water rescues where occupied vehicles were stranded in the flooded roadways. Numerous occupants were pulled from the flood waters on these calls.

Flue Fire 

On Saturday December 20, 2008 at 0754 hrs the Jerome Fire Dept was dispatched to assist the Conemaugh Township Fire Dept  with a flue fire at 2618 Carpenters Park Rd. Engine 631-1 and Rescue 631-3 arrived to assist crews with extinguising the fire and cleaning the debris from the flue. See pics at photo gallery.
